So with the Upfronts happening as we speak, trailers for new pilots start coming online as well.
I thought I’d keep you updated on the pilots I find interesting judging by their trailers/outlines.
Hopefully screeners will start popping up soon so I can decide whether they’ll make the watchlist for september or january!
NBC
Undercovers
JJ Abrams can do no wrong and this looks like a lot of fun. Sure, it’s Mr and Mrs Smith but it could work and it looks amazing as usual with JJ….
The Event
With Lost and 24 ending we need a new cliffhanger/action show, but with recent failures like FlashForward, V and Heroes I’m not sure this mystery-based show will hook viewers for the long-term. Acting’s looking good and I’m intrigued, let’s see what the pilot brings.
Love Bites
Becki Newton can do no wrong. This looks like something right up the alley for viewers who loved SATC, Gilmore Girls and Grey’s Anatomy. Although the short stories-format might sound confusing, I’m waiting til the pilot to see how it plays out. Very fond of the humor btw.
Outlaw
In the line of strong female law enforcement leads like The Closer, Medium and Cold Case comes the addition of Outlaw. It reminds me a lot of Without A Trace for some reason. The pilot looks interesting but the team sure seems a mash of B-actors like Jesse Metcalfe and the latin guy from Prison Break. Probably won’t be able to judge it until episode 2 because they’ll make a stomper out of the first one to get people hooked.
The Cape
So it looks like Smallville productionwise, but anything with Summer Glau is worth 40 minutes of testing the waters. Premise looks good, but would need serious work because it looks way too kiddy now.
FOX:
Lonestar
This might actually become a major hit if it strucks a cord. It’s got major drama, looks like a motion picture, interesting story line supported by amazing actors and could go a long way. We need a dramashow like this with a mystery-premise the viewer knows about already..
Mixed Signals
Looks like the guy version of Cougar Town. The style fits in very well with new comedy hits like CT or Modern Family, so could do very well for Fox. Have to see a full episode to check out the pacing..
Raising Hope
Three men and a baby meets My Name Is Earl. Could be very funny, I love Martha Plimpton (although I hope she’ll be back in The Good Wife as well)…
Running Wilde
Will Arnett + Keri Russel must be funny right? Yet, something’s off about this one… not convinced just yet. Might’ve worked better as a motion picture
Ride-Along
Shawn Ryan has a lot of credits due to the Shield. This looks promising, but might have to do a lot of work. Seeing how an edgy policeshow last year got pushed from network to cable (Southland), this might be a tough sell for US audiences..
